TikTok stories are temporary on purpose. A photo or short video stays on the profile’s story ring for 24 hours, then it drops off for everyone who isn’t the creator. That design is why story viewers have to be honest about timing: they can only show what is active right now.
What expires — and what does not
The story itself expires. Regular posts on the profile do not. If you look up an account and the story slot is empty, the same page can still show recent public videos. Those stay until the creator deletes them.
Creators can save their own expired stories into an in-app archive or add them as a highlight. That archive is not a public feed. A username lookup cannot open another person’s story archive.
There is no “view stories after 24 hours” tool
Search results sometimes imply otherwise. If a site claims it can reconstruct expired stories for any username, be skeptical. TikTok does not keep a public copy sitting around for third parties to grab. This site will show an empty story state rather than invent a replay.
What to do instead
If you care about a public story, check it while it is live. Save it from the result page if you need a copy for later — that download is the story file as it exists now, not a way to recover something that already vanished.
